Six easy habits to get into before school starts - The Breeze

After a long, unanticipated summer at home, good habits one might’ve had could’ve been easily broken in quarantine. With the beginning of school fast approaching comes balancing schoolwork, friends, eating well, exercising and more. Still, a few weeks left until school means one is able to start these good habits early, so that when school starts back up again, it’ll be easy to jump right in with ease. Here are some ways that one can easily transform their lazy days and help get a headstart for school.

Make sleep a priority

Since being at home, it might’ve been too easy to stay up until the middle of the night and then proceed to sleep throughout the day. Once school starts up, one won’t have the opportunity to do that while balancing their classes. Right now, while still at home for a little longer, they should take the chance to start getting into a good sleep routine, like going to bed and waking up at a scheduled time. Once back at school, going to bed and waking up for early classes will be easier if one gets used to it beforehand.

Maintain a healthy diet

Time in quarantine might’ve made it hard to focus on keeping up a balanced diet. Now is the time to work back into a healthy mindset and fix one’s unhealthy eating routines. The right foods can increase brain power, motivation and overall productivity. Some superfoods to increase productivity include berries, dark chocolate, avocados and more. A healthier diet will help one have the energy and brain food to focus before going back to school. Eating three healthy meals a day will help one take better care of the body by fueling it with all the elements it needs to help one succeed.

Move your body

As the beginning of school draws near, a favorable way to help one get out of bed and prepare themselves for the day is to exercise. With regular exercise, one will feel much more energized and refreshed. Physical activity is an easy pick-me-up that will reduce fatigue and boost one’s energy levels. After a long time at home, one will need an energy boost once returning to school, and exercising may be the perfect way to do so.

Clean up one’s life

Disorganization can be a destroyer of motivation. With a messy room or workspace, no matter how hard one tries to concentrate, one will find themselves struggling to find focus because of the mess. Messy environments become harder to retain focus, especially in a dorm room. A sound way to get rid of the mess is to create a daily time to reorganize one’s room, desk or workspace and put everything back where it belongs, pick clothes up off the floor and remake one’s bed.

Create a routine

A summer day for one might involve waking up at noon, eating breakfast, watching TV, eating a late lunch, taking a nap, waking up in time for dinner, watching more TV, playing video games and then going to bed around 1 or 2 a.m. Once school begins, one may not have as much free time to do as they wish, so it’d be beneficial to start getting in a routine now so that it won’t be so hard at school. A satisfactory morning routine to help one get ready for school would be to wake up around 8 or 9 a.m., make one’s bed, get ready for the day by changing out of one’s pajamas, drinking some water and eating a good breakfast.

Getting back into the school routine mindset might not be easy for anyone, especially after a long summer. These easy habits can help turn lazy days into productive ones, with enough time to spare before the start of school.
