Meditating Is Easy The Way They Do It In Bali - Forbes

easy.indah.link

Bali, Indonesia is called the Island of the Gods because it has over 10,000 temples in natural magical settings. For those who want to try meditation while on vacation, Bali is ideal because there’s always a temple nearby or the sound of the ocean or a tropical jungle. But what about those of us who can’t make it to Bali? Perhaps we’re sitting on a plane or train or stuck in traffic in the passenger seat of a car while trying to go on vacation. How are we supposed to quiet our restless and agitated minds? It’s impossible.

Ibu Fera, Wellness Mentor at Four Seasons Resorts Bali at Sayan, disagrees. "The beauty of meditation is that it can be done anytime, anyplace, whenever you need it," she says.

Fera has created five steps for meditating at home, at the office, at an airport, outside in a park — basically, anywhere:

1. Find a quiet place and time, where you can be undisturbed: This can be in your office, in a garden or park, at home, even in a quiet corner of the airport while waiting for a flight or once in the air.  Indoor spaces have fewer distracting sounds, but if you prefer the outdoors, try and distance yourself from cars and other people.

2. Assume a comfortable posture : No matter where you are, find a comfortable chair with cushions and pillows and back support. Loosen any tight clothing. Take off your shoes. Turn off your phone. Remember to keep your back straight and your feet flat on the ground.

MORE FOR YOU

3. Choose an object of concentration: First, concentrate on your breath. The purpose of meditation is to take your mind off distracting thoughts. Breathe in through your nose and hold it for two seconds. Keep your breath inside for another two seconds, then open your mouth and exhale for two seconds. Try and go one more second each time you practice. If you don’t like keeping your eyes closed, choose a nearby object to stare at. You may also light incense or a scented candle to both relax you and help you breath in a calming aroma.

4. Maintain concentration on the object chosen above: Set a timer for three to five minutes. Concentrate on following your breath in and out and empty your mind of thoughts. Naturally, your mind will wander because that’s what the mind likes to do. Just be aware and bring your mind gently back to the object of concentration. Relax. When you catch your mind wandering, remind yourself to concentrate on breathing. Play calming music or listen to the sounds of nature.

5. Set a positive intention for the activities ahead: For example, “May the event be successful." "May the meeting run smoothly."  "May my travels be safe." “May I not be afraid.” As you follow your breath in and out, empty your mind of thoughts.

Naturally, we can’t all go to Bali (right now) and stay at the iconic all-villa beach retreat of Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay, cascading down hilly headland and tropical water gardens adorned with hundreds of statues and shrines all the way to the sparkling Indian Ocean.

Nor can we experience the Four Seasons Sayan, an intimate hideaway nestled between two rivers and offering spacious suites and private villas submerged in the jungle. Both resorts are ideal to mediate or learn to meditate, but you’re waiting to travel internationally right now, find a comfortable quiet spot, close your eyes, and listen to the sound of your breath.

Meditation is one of the best tools we have to release stress, counter the brain’s negativity, create positive intentions, and enjoy the peace of present moment awareness.

There's growing demand for greener goods, but it's not an easy sell | Greenbiz - GreenBiz

easy.indah.link

More people than ever before are speaking out on behalf of the planet — not just with their voices and votes, but with their wallets as well. The individual consumer decisions that each of us makes, from the car we drive to the food we eat, may be mere drops in the bucket when it comes to solving the biggest ecological challenges, but together they add up to a groundswell of support for change — one that leaders from all sectors of society would be wise to embrace.

A new global analysis, commissioned by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and conducted across 54 nations by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), offers the latest evidence for this rising tide of public concern about the environment.

According to the report, the popularity of internet searches for sustainable goods around the world has increased by 71 percent in just five years. Even in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, that number has continued to grow. What’s more, this welcome news isn’t limited to developed nations and advanced economies. The EIU report found a similar trend in many developing nations and emerging markets as well. Ecuador, for example, has seen a staggering 120 percent growth in consumer clicks for sustainable goods.

Graph shows the rising popularity of Google searches about shopping sustinably

Waking up to the urgency

The public’s shift toward green consumerism comes amid a recent rise in public discourse and activism concerning the environment. Since the EIU began its analysis in 2016, the global volume of Twitter conversations about nature-loss has increased by 65 percent, and over 159 million people have signed on to biodiversity-related campaigns.

People are waking up to the urgency of the moment. They see 1 million species barreling toward extinction. They see forests, grasslands and other critical ecosystems vanishing at an alarming rate. And the symptoms of our ailing planet — rising seas, toxic pollution, out-of-control wildfires, new infectious diseases — are more than just images of some far-away problem splashed across our TV screens.

Regardless of where we live, we can feel the impacts of humanity’s broken relationship with nature in our own communities and in our own daily lives.

In this tragic saga, humanity is both culprit and victim. And just to add one more layer of irony, we also happen to be the only actors capable of ensuring a happy ending — for people and nature. That’s why this "eco-wakening" across the general public offers such promise. And yet, it’s also important to understand that public awareness and engagement, while certainly essential, are not sufficient on their own to solve this century’s biggest environmental challenges.

The hurdles consumers face going green

Everyday citizens still face multiple hurdles in their quest to go green. Many simply don’t know what Earth-friendly options are out there. Some assume, often incorrectly, that sustainable goods are of lower quality than their conventional alternatives. Others remain skeptical about the extent of these products’ actual "green-ness." And even those who make good faith efforts to seek out such products often run into other barriers, such as high costs and limited availability.

The reality is that people are ready and willing to embrace sustainability. But they need and expect companies and governments to do their part. This is how an issue such as food safety eventually became something that Americans by and large can take for granted. Thanks to government regulation and private sector leadership, consumers walking the grocery aisles today don’t worry if the items in their cart meet certain standards — it’s just a given. When consumers can shop with similar confidence without checking for a "green label," we’ll know we’ve succeeded.

Savvy business leaders already can see which way the wind is blowing. What’s more, they can see the profits to be reaped by those companies quickest to change course.

New markets are opening up

This surge in consumer demand for sustainable goods opens the door to new markets, particularly in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, fashion and food industries. It also presents new opportunities for companies to build public trust and enhance their brand reputation — and improve their bottom line in the process.

For example, HP’s sustainability activities helped increase the company’s sales in 2019 by over $1.6 billion. And HP is not alone: According to research conducted by NYU Stern’s Center for Sustainable Business from 2013 to 2018, the number of products marketed as sustainable grew 5.6 times faster than products that were not.

Companies and governments can choose to stymie the change that people are clamoring for, or they can get onboard to help spur the innovation needed to ensure a clean, secure and prosperous future.

We’re not asking companies to go on this journey on their own. To address specific issues in their supply chains, there are stakeholder groups for just about every environmentally intensive commodity, including plastic, beef and palm oil. For those businesses without a sense of where to begin, several environmental science organizations, WWF included, can serve as guides on this journey.

While some companies always will step up to be leaders in this space, we will never reach our sustainability-everywhere goal without leveling the playing field. And that will take a change in policy.

Governments are taking notice

Governments are sitting up and taking notice. According to the EIU report, growing public awareness and pressure across the globe have helped to produce a wave of new laws and policies — one example being the surge in legislation restricting single-use or hard-to-recycle plastic items. As of 2019, 127 nations have enacted such laws.

Successes such as these have given fresh momentum to the cause. Today, more than 2 million people are calling for a first-of-its-kind global treaty on marine plastic pollution. Will world leaders take up the gauntlet? They’ll have an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment on that issue and others when they gather later this year for the UN Climate Change Conference, scheduled to take place last year but delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The digital age has given individuals new and exciting tools to affect change on their own and demand change from their leaders. But one thing that hasn’t changed is that, by and large, companies and governments still operate the main levers of power. They can choose to stymie the change that people are clamoring for, or they can get onboard to help spur the innovation needed to ensure a clean, secure and prosperous future.

Ansell column: It’s not easy following Jesus - Waxahachie Daily Light

easy.indah.link

I’ve been going through 2nd Timothy with some people that I love.  There is one common thread that the Apostle Paul writes about to a youngish, middle aged pastor named Timothy. That thread is “suffering.”

This morning as I was praying in shower (I know, too much information - this is after I spent the first hour of my day praying at the kitchen table with the Blonde - Jesus, coffee and Jennifer start off all my days) God spoke to me. What I’m saying is as I was saying, “Lord, help me with the zoo (the nouns in my life - the people, the places and the things in my life) because the zoo is driving me crazy.”  God was saying, “Kenny, this is normal, it’s called suffering.” One of the things I love about our Heavenly Father is He speaks the truth in love and He doesn’t mind hurting our feelings. He’s honest, and honesty is always helpful. Can I get an amen!

Ken Ansell

Paul told Timothy, “Dude, it’s not easy following Jesus. Look at my life (Paul was writing this from a Roman prison). Follow me as I follow Jesus. Follow what I’ve taught, my pattern of daily living, my faithfulness (I’m in jail for Jesus so), my patience, my steadfastness, my love, my persecutions, my troubles, my sufferings, the stuff I have gone through is the stuff you will have to endure as well. Anyone who wants to live all out for Christ is in for a lot of trouble; there’s no getting around it (2nd Timothy 3:10 - 12).” Then Paul says in verse 14, “But don’t let it faze you. Stick with what you have learned and believed …”  Earlier in verse 11b Paul bragged about how God had “rescued” him.  In chapter 4 verse 17 he said God had strengthened him and stood by him. In chapter 4 verse 15, he says he was rescued from the lion’s mouth, and in 4:18 Paul expresses great confidence that the Lord will always rescue him.

It’s faith right?!  I’m begging God to fix my problems, fix the people that are the problems in my life rather than endure, be faithful, be strong in the Lord and accept what God calls normal.

We live in a world that is marked by sin. Marked by selfishness and pride and I can’t wait for God to set things right (read the Book of Revelation), but for now we have to suffer, accept hardship and be brave.

The way the Lord stood by and with Paul is the way God still stands with and by His people today. God has never let me down. We might feel like we are wrestling with God the way Jacob wrestled with God all night in Genesis 32, but God blessed Jacob when morning came. Jacob was amazed at his experience and he said, “I saw God face to face and lived to tell the story (Genesis 32:30)." Wow, isn’t that our story as well?!

This reminds me of Lamentations 3:22 & 23, “The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.  Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” God’s faithfulness should motivate us to get up and get going regardless of how hard the days are. Be energized today, be hopeful, God is good - all the time.  He told me to tell you that!

Three Easy Ways To Better Support Your Remote Team - Forbes

easy.indah.link

Research shows that 41% of the global workforce is likely to consider leaving their current employer within the next year, with 46% planning to make a major pivot or career transition. What can you do to keep your team and your talent? Here are Three Tips to ensure you keep your talent on your side.

Tip #1 - Communicate Your Future Plans

First and foremost, communicate your plans — and soon! Most executives seem to be holding off on announcing sweeping plans and detailed timelines to bring people back. According to a recent McKinsey survey, 40% of employees claim their organizations have not announced their future workplace policies, and another 28 percent say their companies’ policies are vague.

The big idea during change and upheaval is to communicate, communicate, communicate, and yet that’s the opposite of what’s happening here. This is not good. People need to know. They need to be able to plan their lives and next steps. As the McKinsey survey revealed, this indecision is leading to greater levels of disengagement, anxiety and burnout.

Trust me — you don’t want your team to be anxious about their future. They will start making plans to reduce their anxiety. And you will lose talent, whether they leave or stay. Employees who feel included in more detailed communication are nearly five times more likely to report increased productivity.

One company that’s getting ahead of this issue is Dropbox, which announced a “virtual first” strategy for its 3,000 employees. As part of the strategy, they’re eliminating personal desks and office space, instead offering a stipend to employees to create or rent remote working space. Their current leased office space will be repurposed as “design studios” — rooms that are entirely floor-to-ceiling white boards, large conference rooms and small conference rooms. It will be an entire space with multiple collaboration spaces in it for team building, strategic planning, leadership development and innovation conversations.

MORE FOR YOU

The latest research shows that 50% of employees are intending to continue some kind of work from home or hybrid working arrangement, in part due to the myriad of lifestyle changes that transpired over the past year — kids still learning from home, new pets, employees relocating to less populated neighborhoods. That means you have to provide your team with the tools they need to be successful working from home, or working from anywhere.

Tip #2 – Provide Your Team with Proper WFH Office Stuff

Let’s start with the basics. Make sure they have a desk, a comfortable office chair, a good monitor, keyboard, printer and office supplies. I spoke to one of my clients whose employer is not paying for standard office supplies, like printer paper and ink cartridges. This is outrageous. Do the right thing.

Tip #3 - Make Connecting Easier

Just as important, you need to make it easy for your team to connect with one another. Team members have to be connected in order to collaborate and work effectively together. As Robert Glazer writes in his book How to Thrive in the Virtual Workplace, “If flexibility is becoming an increasingly desirable workplace trait, flexible and remote work is the best way to meet that need in a sustainable way.”

The good news is that creative people have been building out all kinds of solutions to make it easier to connect and stay connected for teams. At HLG, we use Zoom, Slack and Miro as a team and have found these tools to support us in collaboration. Remo is a video sharing app that allows team members to see one another while working during the day, much as you would if you were in an office together. Loom, BombBomb, Marco Polo and Vidyard are asynchronous video platforms that allow you to send a video of you at any time night or day for those teams not in the same time zones that still need to get the heart of a message delivered clearly. The great thing about video is that your message is less likely to be misunderstood than it might with email. More tools will surely be on the horizon.

Being a leader wasn’t easy before the pandemic, and it’s only gotten more challenging. But kicking the can down the road doesn’t make it any easier — and you just might lose some of your best people in the meantime. Communicate clearly and continually, support your team in being successful no matter where they’re working and help them stay connected. In return, you will be rewarded with a team that wants to work with and for you.

This isn’t just about whether ... you can provide water for someone standing in line while they’re waiting to vote. This is about who gets to judge whether your vote counted after it’s been cast. Think about it.

Up to now, every state and the federal government has assumed that there would be officials who were appointed and/or elected in states where the election commissioners — bound by an oath that they would uphold certain requirements to make sure the vote was honest and fair. ... It’s about saying that the legislature in Georgia could decide, if it’s a Republican legislature, “You know, on reflection, we don’t think that election was fair. We’re going to vote to say it didn’t count.” It’s just simply wrong. It’s wrong. And in my view, it borders on being immoral.

Cramer: Easy Money (Ford, Apple, Costco) Is the Best Money - TheStreet

easy.indah.link

Rodney Dangerfield and Joe Pesci loved easy money – that’s what their 1983 film of the same name was all about. You should love easy money, too, Jim Cramer wrote recently in his Real Money column. After all, things have been anything but easy over the past 18 months.

He writes: "We've endured the meme stock craziness, with all of its love for heavily shorted stocks. We have watched the collapse of bitcoin to levels viewed as shocking, even if they are still more than double where they were not that long ago. We've dealt with Fed officials making it clear that they are no longer on the side of the bulls or the bears. We've seen the end of the rush to get vaccines, which means that millions of people are going to get the new COVID variant, because there is no natural immunity to it. We've endured shortages of everything from chips to plastic to imported goods and labor.

And we're still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah."

A reopening society like we’re starting to see now also translates into open markets. For most investors, that means taking a closer look at their 401(k)s and index funds. For active investors, however, the siren song is easy money in the form of businesses that investors already know.

Right now, Cramer has these easy money stocks in mind

"First is Ford  (F) - Get Report. I think the Ford lineup is amazing. The electric F-150 series will be incredible. I am eager to get a Maverick for my family, because it is a smaller pickup that will get the job done for the myriad little things I need to do with this farm I bought from that crazy bitcoin foray. I like the competitive edge of the CEO, who says he is going to bury Elon Musk when the Lightning comes out. I even think the Bronco is cool as all get out. Most important, though? I think the chip shortage is ending."

Read more of what Cramer has to say about Ford, Costco and Apple on Real Money.

Cramer’s also got an eye on Costco  (COST) - Get Report, because the samples are coming back. "You want low prices," he writes. "You want to get all of the things that people don't think of with Costco, like insurance, hearing-aids -- hey, they are a fortune -- jewelry, things around the house. You go and you will buy far more than you first came for. My kind of store."

Apple?  (AAPL) - Get Report Cramer says people who don’t own Apple should look at what they are holding right now. Or what’s in their lap or on the table.

Cramer calls the summer of 2021 “halcyon times,” when the living is a little easier. Stocks like Ford, Costco, Apple and several others highlighted in Real Money can make life simpler for those who seek the low-hanging fruit and who want to take a big bite out of the market apple.

As Cramer says, “Accept the moment. Don't try for the hard money. Go for the easy kind. That's the best kind.”

At the time of publication, Cramer's Action Alerts PLUS Investor Club had a position in F, AAPL.
