A mini traffic circle on Prospect Avenue, at 10th Street, and curb extensions at 9th, 14th and 15th streets, designed to make crossing Prospect safer for pedestrians, will be reinstalled this week, or next, according to a city press release. The city suspended use of the traffic circle prior to the Memorial Day weekend to “reassess the design,” according to the city statement, released this week.
Feedback from residents who responded to a city survey about the Prospect Avenue changes was generally negative.
“Overkill,” wrote one resident.
“Too damn many stop signs,” said another.
“Looking for a problem to solve to justify the money you [the city] have been granted to spend,” one resident argued.
But some responses were supportive of the changes. “It’s not a matter of money. It is a matter of protecting walkers like me, especially walkers who do not cross the street quickly,” a presumably older resident said.
