I don’t know whose harebrained idea it is to put the police station on Mare Island Way — it’s a terrible place for the station. One can only imagine police going on a call racing at 80 mph down the single lane of Mare Island Way to get to Highway 37. It’s not going to end well.

I’m not working for the city planning department making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, but I will give my alternative ideas free of charge.
• Use the vacant Walmart building on Sonoma Boulevard. Easy access to Highway 37 and all of Vallejo.
• Wait until Costco moves to its new building and then use the current Costco building. Easy access to Interstate-80 and Highway 37. Again, easy access to all of Vallejo.
• Move the library to the waterfront Mare Island Way building and the police station can move to the current library location. Not the best location for the police department, but better than the Mare Island Way building. And wouldn’t that be a great location for the library?

Vallejo City Councilmembers Dew and Brown are concerned about ferry riders walking to their cars from the ferry building and people having libations at the taproom. The easy answer is to have a police officere on a bicycle stationed at the ferry building and riding around the parking lot when the ferries arrive in the afternoon to ensure the safety of ferry riders and taproom patrons. A heck of a lot better than having an armed fortress on the waterfront.

Fortunately, a majority of our current city council is concerned with the citizens of Vallejo and not lining the pockets of the Jumpstart Vallejo or whatever name they call themselves nowadays with gingerbread projects.

I’ve submitted these ideas free of charge, I’m not an overpaid bureaucrat. Mr. Nyoff, you are welcome.
