The Park Rapids wrestling team used 17 forfeits to open the season with a pair of easy victories at Oklee on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Nine forfeits and one pin sparked a 60-15 victory over Red Lake County Central while eight forfeits and three pins led to a 66-12 win over Roseau.
In the win over RLCC, Robby Sherk at 106 pounds, Wrigley Clark at 113, Eli Burton at 120, Matt Dahring at 126, Andy Johanning at 132, Jarrett Galzki at 138 and Henry Thorson at 145 received forfeits as the Panthers built a 42-0 lead. Lucas Kritzeck’s second-period pin at 152 was followed by a forfeit win by Zach Paurus at 160. Kritzeck built a 7-0 lead with a takedown and two nearfalls in the first period before a takedown set up his pin at the 3:06 mark. Dandre Johnson received a forfeit at 220 to complete the scoring for the Panthers.
Sherk opened the match against Roseau with a first-period pin at 106 before Clark, Burton and Dahring received forfeits. Galzki’s first-period pin at 132 was followed by forfeit wins by Thorson and Kritzeck. Sherk needed only 19 seconds to record his pin while Galzki recorded his pin at the 1:15 mark. Taten Horton’s forfeit win at 182, Tristan Hill’s third-period pin at 195, and forfeit wins by Johnson and Isaac Knapp in the final two matches concluded the scoring. Hill used a reversal in the third period to break a scoreless tie before recording a pin at the 5:40 mark.
