The Herald is introducing a new community calendar that is free to use.

The Herald’s Cove Calendar has been completely revamped and is now easier to use. The entire Cove community is invited to make the calendar a central place to find out what’s going on in the Cove. There are no fees and no charge and the calendar is easy to use.

“Our plan is to have one central calendar for the Cove community,” said Herald Publisher Allan J. Bassler. “We set up this new calendar to give the community one place to go for all the events happening in the Cove.”

While acknowledging that many events have been canceled due to coronavirus-related restrictions, Bassler said that the Herald is looking forward to the time when the Cove can get back to normal and the community is busy with activities.

To use the new calendar, go to the Herald’s website at http://www.mcheraldonline.com and follow the directions provided in the box which accompanies this story.

The new Cove Calendar is an interactive online calendar that the Herald has added to its website.

The new Cove Calendar allows users to view community events and information about those events.

Users also have the ability to submit their own events. Users can subscribe to the calendar, which will link the Herald calendar events to their own calendar software or calendar website.

“An interactive calendar like this one allows people in the community to share their events, anniversaries and celebrations publicly,” Bassler said. “It brings a sense of community to the Cove and keeps the information all in one place. Think of it like a public bulletin board that people thumbtack ads and information to, but it’s online and all about local events that you’re invited to.”

The Cove Calendar allows users to view the calendar in three different ways: pinboard, agenda or monthly. The calendar is easy to use and is easy to understand.

Also, the new Cove Calendar will fit the screen of whatever device it is viewed on, whether it is a desktop computer, a laptop, a phone or tablet. In short, it’s mobile-phone friendly.

Using the new Cove Calendar will not replace taking out an advertisement to publicize an event in the weekly print newspaper, Bassler said.

“Buying an ad in the Herald not only supports the Herald and its employees, but remains the best way to get lots of attention for a community event,” Bassler said. “If you’re holding a community event, placing an ad in the Herald’s pages offers event sponsors more space to attract participants. With an ad, you also won’t be competing with other events.”

For reasons of space, submissions to the community calendar will limit the amount of information provided.

To place an ad in the Herald for a community event, please call the Herald office at 793-2144. Buying ads for community events helps both the organization and the Herald, Bassler said.

Questions about the calendar should be directed to [email protected] or 793-2144.
