Freestylers spark Panthers to easy win - Park Rapids Enterprise

The Panthers finished 1-2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle while going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle relay in building a 103-35 lead. Park Rapids swam exhibition in the final three events in coasting to the win in the final home meet of the season.

Analise Smee, Aleah Voigt, Savana Damar and Ellie Ulvin won the 200 medley relay in 2:06.67 while Maria Wagner, Gabi Shepersky, Addison Lauwagie and Amelia Bagstad followed in 2:10.59 as the Panthers jumped out to a 12-2 lead in this Mid-State Conference dual.

Lizzie Seifert’s winning time of 2:16.51, Maya Deshayes’ runner-up 2:22.30 and Mylee Edevold’s 2:24.06 led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 freestyle before Voigt won the 200 individual medley in 2:26.37 to push the advantage to 36-10. Massie Lee was third in the 200 individual medley in 2:36.45.

A 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 freestyle was led by Ulvin’s winning time of 26.06, Emma Vrieze’s 26.57 and Damar’s 27.91. Brielle Krabbenhoft finished second in diving with 166.90 points as Park Rapids led 53-24.

Smee led the field in the 100 butterfly in 1:10.08 and Damar followed in 1:10.45 before Vrieze’s 57.87, Lauwagie’s 59.36 and Bagstad’s 1:04.00 sparked a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 freestyle.

Another 1-2-3 sweep in the 500 freestyle extended the lead to 91-33. Seifert clocked a 6:07.67, Nora Cederstrom followed in 6:39.49 and McKenzie Himango took third in 6:39.88 in that race.

Ulvin, Smee, Damar and Vrieze won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.41 while Lee, Wagner, Edevold and Seifert followed in 2:00.06 to conclude the scoring for the Panthers.

Park Rapids also would have finished 1-2-3 in both the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke and placed 1-2 in the 400 freestyle relay. Voigt (1:06.86), Lauwagie (1:07.48) and Deshayes (1:11.29) clocked exhibition times in the 100 backstroke while Lee (1:20.26), Shepersky (1:20.67) and Himango (1:25.60) swam exhibition in the 100 breaststroke. Vrieze, Smee, Voigt and Ulvin teamed for a 3:58.19 while Seifert, Lauwagie, Bagstad and Lee clocked a 4:04.02 in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Panthers also won the junior varsity meet by a 74-54 margin.

Todd Fritze’s team improved to 5-1 on the season by winning for the fifth meet in a row. The Panthers will conclude the regular season with a dual meet at Detroit Lakes on Oct. 8. Bemidji will host Park Rapids, Fosston/Bagley and Grand Rapids as part of the Section 8A meet on Oct. 22 (diving) and Oct. 24 (swimming events). The other Section 8A sites will have Detroit Lakes hosting Fergus Falls and Perham/New York Mills and Warroad hosting Crookston and Thief River Falls on those dates.
