Today, the Horizon Foundation and its Speak(easy) Howard campaign announced a new event designed to encourage Howard County residents to connect with their loved ones and start a conversation about their advance care plan. The event, Speaking Easy Over Dinner, will take place on September 30 and offers residents a pre-made dinner for four to be delivered to their home along with a guided conversation to talk through their health care wishes.
“Now more than ever, staying connected is on everyone’s mind – and we’re all looking for new ways to get in touch,” said Nikki Highsmith Vernick, president and CEO of the Horizon Foundation. “With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing the importance of advance care planning into a new light, our goal for Speaking Easy Over Dinner is to provide a creative way to talk with your loved ones about the things that would matter most to you if a time came when you couldn’t speak for yourself.”
Howard County residents can sign up and choose their meal kit at https://bit.ly/speaking-easy. Once the meals are delivered, registrants are encouraged to connect with their families, friends and loved ones either virtually or safely in person and walk through the discussion questions in their meal kit. At the conclusion of the meal, Speak(easy) Howard also encourages participants to name their health care agent at https://speakeasyhoward.org/.
All meals will be prepared and delivered by Classic Catering. The deadline to register is September 20.
The Speak(easy) Howard campaign is a Howard County initiative that helps residents think through their preferences for care, talk about them with loved ones and name a health care agent, the person you choose to make medical decisions if you can’t. The Horizon Foundation is leading the campaign along with many community partners.
